Top Rank Prospect Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed: I want another knockout!

Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed is one of the young charges handpicked to be the future of Top Rank promotions. He is an undefeated welterweight with a record of 13 wins and 0 losses, 7 of those wins came by way of knockout. Reed fights out of the dream team boxing gym in Clinton, MD, the gym is run by his trainer and father Michael “Buck” Pinson. He was signed by Top Rank last year and since then he has tried to impress his promotional team every time he steps in that squared circle.

His last fight was against the tough Eddie Soto in front of his home crowd in Washington, D.C. Soto was no match for the hand speed and power of Reed. Reed finished the fight earning an impressive TKO in the second round. A stoppage that is one step closer to bringing him more exposure to lift him to the pinnacle of the sport. On May 8th in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center, Mike Reed will be returning to the ring looking for another impressive outing. He will be on the undercard of Glen Tapia-Michel Soro, He tells me what he wants as he speaks in third person ” Mike Reed wants another knockout!” says Reed when I asked him what he expected from himself when fights May 8th.  He continued ” I want to show Top Rank my knockout power…I’m sure they’ve seen video but I want them to see it live.” He gets another chance to showcase his power on May 8th. His opponent has not been named yet.

Reed at the age of 22 is looking to make statement and even set the goal to fight for his first world title at the age of 24. That gives him two years from this date to make big statements in the welterweight division that is booming with talent. The biggest fight of the century which is scheduled May 2nd happens to be taking place at the welterweight limit. The bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will be the biggest bout that boxing has seen in years. I asked Mike to break down how he saw the fight playing out, “I think Manny is going to get him….I think Freddie Roach was on to something when he said Floyd had slowed down.” Mike  and Manny both fight under Top Rank and he seems to be siding with his stablemate. Mike won’t be in Vegas to see the fight because he has business of his own to attend to on May 8th in Newark, New Jersey. The May 8th card will be the latest installment of the new boxing series from Top Rank premiering on TruTv.
