Lucas Browne gives up Commonwealth title, eyeing heavyweight title

Australia’s Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne has relinquished his Commonwealth heavyweight title with immediate effect. Browne became the first fighter from Down Under to hold the crown in 122 years when he stopped Canada’s Eric Bahoeli in April 2014. Browne gave up the belt in hopes of becoming a world champion as he is the mandatory challenger for WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev, which in via prepared statement Chagaev explained is now his main focus. Browne furthered that he has tunnel vision with Chagaev being his sole focus a the moment.

Chagaev fought last Saturday as he demolished an outclassed foe Francesco Pianeta, whom Chagaev knocked out in the first round.
