Chavez Jr. defeats Reyes in Showtime triple header

In a bizarre fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1 32KOs) and Marcos “El Dorado” Reyes (32-2 24KOs) in front of a packed house at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas saw Chavez Jr. earn a majority decision over a game Reyes. Reyes who started early with a flood of activity appeared game to play spoiler to Chavez Jr. who stalked Reyes around the ring , but landed the heavier shots. In the ninth round, Reyes was deducted a point for a head clash that was utterly confusing as Chavez Jr. complained to referee until the deduction happened. The final scores were 97-92, 98-91, 96-93

 

In a clash of unbeaten 115-pounders, 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian McJoe Arroyo (17-0, 8 KOs) won a ten round technical decision over Filipino Arthur Villanueva (27-1, 14 KOs) to claim the vacant IBF junior bantamweight world title on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. It was a fight that was hard to score as not much happened and was to put it bluntly, boring. Villanueva was deducted a point by referee Rafael Ramos in round six for coming in with his head which was one of the more action packed moments of the bout. Villanueva was also cut over the right eye by a theme of the fight a clash of head. The bout was stopped in the tenth round with Arroyo winning by the scores of 97-92, 98-91, 98-91.

Undefeated 140-pound contender Amir “Young Master” Imam (18-0, 15 KOs) scored a spectacular fourth round KO over former world title challenger Fernando “La Fiera” Angulo (29-10, 16 KOs) in a WBC world title eliminator.Imam, a top prospect who is now the number one contender for the WBC super lightweight title held by the winner of Lucas Matthysse-Viktor Postol. Imam who has once in a generation power dropped Angulo with a right hand behind his ear that laid Angulo flat as he fell face first.
