Salido, Martinez battle to draw

In a good ol’ fashion backyard brawl Orlando “Siri” Salido (43-13-2 29KOs) fought to a draw with Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-3 17KOs), which was the re-match of a bout Martinez won earlier this year in a fringe worthy fight of the year fight. In the co-main event of the Floyd Mayweather-Orlando Salido pay-per-view telecast saw Salido destroy Martinez’s body with violent punches that dramatically changed the course of the fight.

In the first couple of rounds, Salido and Martinez traded a pair of knockdowns which set the tone for what would be an exciting bout. From the early onset Martinez began to limp and hunch over as he the punches from Salido where thrown with malice and ill intent. Salido who claimed that the first bout in which he lost was mainly due to the fact that he didn’t expect Martinez to move.

In the final round, Salido appeared to tire as Martinez finished strong with less then ten seconds left Martinez’s mouthpiece was knocked out of his mouth as the fight ended the way it started with both throwing punches without thinking about the outcome or effect the punches coming back might do to them.

The final scores were 115-113, 113-115 and 114-114. Most pundits at ringside felt that Salido deserved to win the bout as did this writer.a
