Postol stops Matthysse to win WBC super-lightweight title

Viktor “The Iceman” Postol (28-0, 12KO) forced Lucas Matthysse (37-4, 34KO) to quit in order win the vacant WBC super lightweight title via tenth round stoppage on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. In a bout dominated early by Postol saw Matthysse rally back with his power in the middle rounds. In the seventh, Postol hurt Matthysse and Matthysse was never the same. Matthysse was dropped in the tenth round as he took a knee and refused to get up with two seconds left in the round.

In the opening bout of the HBO telecast, Antonio Orozco defeated Humberto Soto in a fairly competitive decision win.
