Diaz, Gomez win in Indio, CA

2012 U.S. Olympian featherweight prospect Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. of South El Monte, California earned a one-sided decision over Ruben “Canelito” Tamayo in the 10-round featherweight main event at the Fantasy Springs Events Center in Indio, California.

The judges scored every round for Diaz who dominated from start to finish by dictating the range of the bout and forcing Tamayo to fight at distance, which put Tamayo in a tough spot since he was the much smaller man.

In the opening bout, East LA junior welterweight turned super welterweight Frankie “Pitbull” Gomez (19-0, 13 KOs) dominated Jorge “Pantera” Silva (19-10-2, 12 KOs) for ten rounds in route to a decision in which he won every round. Gomez who looked dominate in the fight will have to deal with the fact that he has missed weight two fights in a row and now is fighting in a weight class that he doesn’t look to be suited for based off size at the highest level. All three judges scored the bout 100-90 for “The Pitbull.”
