Islamic State had a plan to kidnap Manny Pacquiao?

Per a report from Dan Rafael of ESPN, Manny Pacquiao may have been the center of a very scary kidnapping plot that overshadows the entertainment we often get from the escapism that is boxing.

According to the report, Abu Sayyaf, a member of ISIL, who was involved in many kidnaps appeared to have had plans on kidnapping Manny Pacquiao according to Philippines president Benigno Aquino III.

According to the Associated Press, Abu Sayyaf is accused of beheading Canadian John Ridsdel on Monday in the Philippines after it did not receive the monetary compensation it wanted. To think that Pacquiao could be targeted it is not unreasonable thought.

Aquino stated the plot was to kidnap Pacquiao, but if that didn’t work to target one of his children or a close family member to try and extort money.

The news is a grime and ugly reminder of the harshness of the world that we live in and how boxing is just a small part of the world at large.
