Bernard Hopkins wonders why media is giving Golovkin a pass

In a video with Elie Seckbach, Bernard Hopkins let the world know how he feels about Gennady Golovkin

“I made concessions to Oscar [de la Hoya] to come down, being the undisputed middleweight champion to come down to 158 lbs, because Bob Arum from Top Rank offered me a lot of money, plus I knew what would come out of that if I beat Oscar de la Hoya.” the future hall of famer, Hopkins said.

As Hopkins stood in front of signage to promote the weekend’s fight he furthered that in order to become a star, he had to do things to allow him to become a star, one of which was giving up some of his leverage. Hopkins felt frustrated as he was the undisputed middleweight champion after beating Felix Trinidad and even then still had to make concessions and feels the media is going easy on Gennady Golovkin for being unwilling to move up in weight.

Hopkins questions that when he fought de la Hoya he came in at 157, not 158 lbs. that the contract was made at in the prime of his career and wonders why Golovkin gets a pass to just stay at middleweight

“I suggested a fight everyone would want to see, let them find a weight and fight!”

Hopkins ended the interview by explaining that he would like to see Sergey Kovalev fight Gennady Golovkin at a catchweight, because that is what Amir Khan is doing on Saturday against Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.
