Wilder-Povetkin canceled over Povetkin’s failed drug test

In some sad, but unsurprising news – Deontay Wilder(36-0 35KOs)  will not be fighting  per a SKY Sports report. Alexander Povetkin (30-1 22KOs), who failed for meldonium, the substance that Maria Sharapova was caught with last year in tennis after VADA conducted random tests weeks out from the fight.

To make the matters more strange the promoter confirmed Povetkin had been taken the recently banned substance until it was banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency as he said that only small trace amounts were what turned up

The WBC on the other hand, the sanctioning body for the title Deontay Wilder holds, conducted it’s own investigation and decided that the bout is off and has not made any statement that the fight could be rescheduled.

The WBC will make a ruling furthermore in the coming days, but it appears that Povetkin will not be the number one contender and that a fight against the champion, Wilder, in his native land of Russia is now off the table – all, but for good.
