Andre Ward dominates in Oakland, undercard results as well
Light heavyweight Andre “S.O.G” Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Alexander Brand (25-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Oracle Arena in Ward’s hometown of Oakland, California. Ward dropped Brand once, but Brand proved to be a game vet, who survived until the final. The scores were 120-108 across the board.
With the win, Ward will now face Sergey Kovalev on pay-per-view
Junior welterweight Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (21-0-2, 16 KOs) made his case for title contention as he stopped Ty Barnett (23-6-1, 15 KOs) in the first round. Hooker dropped Barnett with a left hook, did a little dance and then stopped him seconds later once again with a minute and half into the fight. Hooker, the NABO champion wants Ricky Burns soon
Light heavyweight Junior “The Young God” Younan (10-0, 8 KOs) scored a spectacular first round KO over Jinner Guerrero (8-7, 6 KOs). Younan predicted a 48 second knockout the day before , but was off by mere seconds as the bout went less then a minute and a half
Heavyweight “Rock Solid” Darmani Rock (4-0, 3 KOs) nearly got upset by Mike Kyle (1-3-1, 1 KO) as the heavyweight appeared rocked in the middle frame. Rock would drop Kyle in the fourth round. The judges saw the bout 40-35, 39-36, 39-36.
Featherweight Daniel “Twitch” Franco (14-0-3, 9 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Marcelo Gallardo (7-4-2, 3 KOs). Franco dropped Gallardo in the opening moments of the first round with a right hand, but took his time to finish the fight as he waited on the Gallardo to open up before stopping him
Oakland, Ca native Bilal Mahasin of Boxing for Health defeated Luis Alfredo Lugo in the opening out of the night. Mahasin was able to outbox the rugged veteran. The bout was a four rounder, the judges saw the fight 40-36, 40-36, 39-37 all for Mahasin
