LA Fight Club results: Guitierrez in another hard fought battle

Middleweight Antonio “La Joya” Gutierrez (21-2-1, 9 KOs) of Tijuana won got into another knockdown drag’em out fight on Saturday night as he pulled off a  ten round unanimous decision over former Miguel Cotto Promotions fighter Jorge “Destroyer” Melendez (28-7-1, 26 KOs) at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Melendez dropped Gutierrez in the second round with a right hand. Despite being dropped early Gutierrez would stalk Melendez and put pressure upon him winning the fight on all three cards.

The judges saw the bout 97-92, 97-92, and 96-93 for Gutierrez.

Lightweight Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (15-0, 13 KOs) scored a second round knockout over an overmatched foe  Jonathan Corrales (8-4-2, 3 KOs) in the co-main event. 

The Estrella TV broadcast began with lightweight Oscar Duarte (7-0-1, 3 KOs) going four tough rounds with Rafael Reyes (6-9, 5 KOs) in scheduled four round bout. All three judges scored the bout 38-37 as the knockdown proved to be the difference as many felt Reyes edged the fight.

Junior lightweight Lamont Roach Jr. (12-0, 4 KOs) picked up a knockout over Mario Macias (26-20, 14 KOs) in the third round.

Featherweight Edgar Valerio (8-0, 4 KOs) of Los Angeles decisioned Emmanuel Castro (2-3, 2 KOs) as he g cut Valerio. The scores were 50-45, 50-45, and 49-46.

The first fight of the night saw Tenochtitlan Nava (3-0, 1 KO) of Los Angeles stopping Juan Bryand (1-5-1) of Laredo, Texas in three rounds of a scheduled four round super featherweight bout.
