Stevenson stops Fonfara, Alvarez decisions Pascal

WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (29-1 24KOs) made quick work of Andrzej Fonfara (29-5 17KOs) as Fonfara’s corner stopped the fight in the second round of their title fight from Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Fonfara looked to press Stevenson early, but walked into straight left hands as it was clear, Stevenson had much faster hand speed. Fonfara was dropped towards the end of the first round and barely made it out of the first round. After eating several other straight left hands, Fonfara’s coach, Virgil Hunter, threw the towel in and called the bout to a halt

Light heavyweight Eleider Alvarez (23-0, 11 KO) won a hard-fought twelve round, but at times not the most aesthetically pleasing fight as he picked up a majority decision over former world champion Jean Pascal (31-5-1, 18 KO). The bout saw Alvarez control the the bout with his jab seemingly winning the fight soundly, but a low output from Alvarez and Pascal throwing most of his punches in the last minute of rounds kept the judges scores close.

Alvarez now is next in line to fight Adonis Stevenson, barring he takes step aside money since he isn’t quite a household name, but he is the mandatory challenger for Stevenson.

The judges had it 114-114, 117-11 and 116-112
