Mikey Garcia defeats Adrien Broner in Brooklyn

In the main event of a nearly sold-out Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Mikey Garcia (37-0 30KOs) picked up a career defining win over four division world champion Adrien Broner (33-3 24KOs).

In the first round, Broner outboxed Garcia who appeared to see what Broner was going to do in the bout. The second saw Garcia’s jab takeover as well as the following round, the most meaningful punch of the early rounds a left hook that moved Broner backwards.

The middle rounds saw Broner start become more flat-footed as Garcia was able to up his volume and pile up rounds. Garcia in the eighth round walked Broner down hands low daring him to punch. The ninth saw Broner land his most meaningful punch of the fight with a left hook to the body.

 

The judges saw the bout 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.
