Azat Hovhannisyan spoils Ronny Rios’ homecoming
Veteran featherweight Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (14-2, 11 KOs) of Glendale, California stopped hometown fighter Ronny Rios (29-3, 13 KOs) of Santa Ana, California and Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (14-2, 11 KOs) in the main event of boxing card promoted by Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN2 in main event at the Hangar in Costa Mesa, California. The fight was all action as Hovhannisyan seemed to just have too much fire power for Rios, who wouldn’t box, but insisted on trading. This proved costly as Rios was rocked in the third round. Hovhannisyan would drop Rios in the sixth and stop him seconds later.
Very popular women’s middleweight boxer Maricela Cornejo (10-2, 3 KOs) picked up a fourth-round technical knockout over Lisa Garland (15-10, 8 KOs).
welterweight prospect, Alexis Rocha (11-0, 8 KOs), the younger brother of Ronnie Ríos, stopped Miguel “La Amenaza” Dumas (10-2, 7 KOs) in the first round.
In the opening bout, middleweight Marvin Cabrera (7-0, 5 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Sergio “Marino” Gonzalez (6-5, 2 KOs). The judges saw it 79-72, 78-72, & 78-72.
