Nearly two weeks before his title fight, Liam “Beefy” Smith has been forced out of his WBO super-welterweight world title fight against champion Sadam Ali, which would have taken place at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York. The reason which was given for Smith’s inability to fight was an illness with few details beyond that.

Currently, Golden Boy Promotions is looking for a replacement for Sadam Ali to make a defense against as this was a marquee title fight and a rare boxing date on HBO. This is also the second card HBO has lost involving Golden Boy Promotions as the week prior Canelo Alvarez was supposed to fight Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on May 5th which was canceled.
