Denis Lebedev, Kal Yafai win in Monte Carlo, Monaco

Cruiserweight Denis Lebedev (32-2, 23 KOs) outworked Oregan boxer and promoter Mike Wilson (19-1, 8 KOs) on Saturday at the Casino de Monte Carlo in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The 39-year-old Lebedev hurt Wilson in the fourth round, but Wilson hung in there and found his infinity pace as the two worked to a twelve round decision.

All three judges scored the 117-111, 119-109, 119-109 in favor of Lebedev.

WBA super flyweight champion Khalid Yafai (25-0, 15 KOs) squeaked out a twelve round unanimous decision over Israel Gonzalez (23-3, 10 KOs) in the co-main event.

The bout was extremely close as Yafai did throw or move a ton for the majority of the fight as the massive underdog Gonzalez seemed to outwork him. Yafai picked it up in the second half of the fight winning nearly every round, but some wondered if it was too little, too late. It wasn’t

The judges saw it all in favor of Yafai 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.

Yafai is a possible candidate to face Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez next year.
