Ware, Madera win on ShoBox

Super middleweight DeAndre Ware (13-1-2, 8 KOs) returned after the biggest loss of his career on ShoBox to pull off the biggest win of his career tonight being a majority decision over previously undefeated Ronald Ellis (15-1-2, 10 KOs) in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation Friday on SHOWTIME from Main Street Armory in Rochester..

Ware used volume to defeat Ellis as Ware appeared to hurt his right hand in the third round as it was rarely thrown from that point on. Ware pressed forward with his powerful style. Ware also commented this was the first time he had a full camp as he also works as firefighter back home in Ohio.

For Ellis, the loss is disappointing as it appeared he’d fought himself into a position to get a great oppurtunity, but instead becomes yet another prospect to lose their undefeated record on ShoBox.

In the opening bout of the telecast, lightweight Will Madera (13-0-2, 6 KOs) gave Thomas Mattice (13-1-1, 10 KOs) the first loss of his career via a unanimous decision in a fight Madera took a few weeks prior to the telecast.

Madera took advantage of one of Mattice’s glaring weaknesses, that being a lack of volume. Madera stayed very active and built up a lead in the first half of the fight. Mattice looked to land a big and powerful shot, but he just couldn’t put the punches together to land enough of them.

Mattice had a great sixth round, but like stated above was looking for his power to bail him out, and it never did in this bout.
