Deontay Wilder vs. Dominic Breazeale to be shown on Showtime

Deontay Wilder will return to action on May 18th on Showtime against Dominic Breazeale at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as Wilder looks to make the ninth defense of his WBC heavyweight division.

The build-up to the press conference was partially based around the network drama, in which DAZN appeared to hold meetings with Deontay Wilder to try and offer him a deal to that would provide a roadmap to fighting Anthony Joshua. The announcement in such a divided distribution situation of boxing content brought to light the dynamic of the Premier Boxing Champions paradox as some have wondered if Al Haymon, who is closely tied to Wilder, and PBC, would let Wilder fighting on other outlets.

That being said with Wilder taking a meeting with DAZN, and it seemingly opened the door at least allowing Wilder to go to a rival network showed good faith in terms of being an advisor.

“There isn’t a choice between loyalty and finnicial success” said Stephen Espinoza of Showtime.

Breazeale has enlisted Virgil Hunter to help for this camp. The two connected a month ago, and now Breazeale believes that Hunter will be missing ingredient. Breazeale is a 2012 U.S. Olympian, who will be getting his second world title fight as he fought Anthony Joshua two years ago, and lost.

“I have been waiting a year and a half for this title.” said Breazeale. “I am sick of seeing this bum walk around with this belt…”

Another story of the bout was a hotel brawl between the two back in July of 2016 in which Wilder and Breazeale got into a fight in the hotel lobby. Insider information was shared about the incident as one thing was clear, the two don’t like each other.

“I love this sport, this only sport, the pain is a [expletive].” said Wilder. “I can’t wait! I am ready” said Wilder.

As expected things got a bit heated as Wilder talked over Breazeale towards the end of the press conference. The bout which many viewed as an uninspired match-up at first has real bad blood between the two, that should by fight night, a memorable build-up
