WBO rejects Oscar Valdez versus Erick Ituarte

Well, the World Boxing Organization is “that friendly” with Top Rank after all as the WBO rejected a purposed bout of WBO featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez taking on Thompson Boxing’s Erick Ituarte, on June 8th in Reno, Nevada, which would be broadcast on ESPN+.

The president of the sanctioning body sent this tweet earlier today

The card, bout and show that Top Rank has been rumored to be putting together for June 8th in Reno, Nevada, has yet to be formally announced despite being roughly a month away.

Valdez (25-0, 20KOs), the long-reigning WBO world champion who picked up his belt with a second-round knockout of Matias Rueda in their July 2016 for the vacant title has since put together five world title defenses. Valdez’s most recent title defense was against Carmine Tommasone this past February in Frisco, Texas, on a Top Rank super card on ESPN.

Valdez has switched trainers after the Scott Quigg bout leaving longtime trainer Manny Robles and training with Eddy Reynoso, best known for training “Canelo” Alvarez.
