Vergil Ortiz Continues To Impress, KOs Brad Solomon

Vergil Ortiz Jr.(15-0, 15 KOs), who holds some form of a WBA title continued to impress stopping former Top Rank Inc fighter, Brad “King” Solomon (28-2, 9 KOs) five rounds on Friday night at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. Ortiz dropped Solomon with a hard jab in round four, the pressure continued as Ortiz dropped Solomon in round five, with the second knockdown causing the stoppage.

Former WBA super featherweight champion Alberto “Explosivo” Machado (22-2, 18 KOs) moved up to lightweight just to get a second-round KO over 2008 Olympian Luis Porozo (14-2, 7 KOs), dropping Porozo three times, each to the body.

Olympian super middleweight silver medalist Bektemir Melikuziev (4-0, 3 KOs) won a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Vaughn Alexander (15-4, 9 KOs) to claim the vacant WBA Continental Americas title.

Welterweight Alexis “Lex” Rocha (15-0, 10 KOs) had a cautionary fight with Roberto Valenzuela (17-2, 16 KOs). Rocha stopped Valenzuela, who couldn’t answer the bell after the fifth, but Rocha took a lot of unneeded damage in the second round, that could foreshadow future fights.

Super lightweight Luis Feliciano (14-0, 8 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Herbert “Ace” Acevedo (16-2-1, 6 KOs).
