Wrestlemania Overshadows Boxing This Week

Editor’s Note: If you have a life, or want to do other things – this is the week to do so since nothing is all that interesting. If you want me to compile a list of movies, on streaming services let me know – might be a welcomed change of pace.

Marshall Fights In U.K.

Savannah Marshall vs. Femke Hermans moved to April 2 in Newcastle

Saturday, April 2nd, 12 PM PST | Not Sure You Can Watch In The U.S.

Savannah Marshall will seemingly face her last opponent in Femke Hermans, as she looks to defend her WBO women’s middleweight title, before facing Claressa Shields in a grudge match. Marshall is the only person to beat Claressa Shields as an amateur or a pro and is a lot taller than her as well.

That being said, we still have no information on how to watch the bout in America. Marshall is fun to hear talk, and violent in the ring, as she has trained with the Fury family most of her life. Marshall is a true rival that Shields needs to have a great moment in the sport of boxing.

Hermans is a former Claressa Shields opponent, who lost every round to Shields en route to a 10-round decision loss.

undercard…

Middleweight Bradley Rea looks to be a future world title contender or in that realm, he fights on the undercard against an opponent in over his head against the world-level fighter.

The most interesting bout of th evening will see undefeated Florian Marku, The Albanian King, put his undefeated record on the line against Chris Jenkins, a regional tough guy, at welterweight.

Nathan Gorman, a heavyweight Daniel Dubois knocked out, and has just that one loss to his record fights on the undercard against L.A. spoiler Scott Alexander.

Martin on DAZN

Friday, April 1st, 10:30 AM PST | DAZN

Sandor Martin will return back in Europe facing former signed pro boxer Jose Felix in his first bout since beating Mikey Garcia. Martin is a southpaw spoiler, and Felix Jr., is a fighter people had high hopes for, but couldn’t get past the Solo Boxeo days of Top Rank Inc.

Martin is probably one fight away from a very interesting fight, but Martin needs to carry his momentum forward, and not stall out against a fighter like Felix, as sometimes feel-good stories can lose these types of trap bouts.

This fight will tell us more about who Martin truly is as a fighter, in short, can he put together back-to-back great performances.

The undercard has regional talent, I am not familiar with.

Club Shows

Erick De Leon vs. Juan Jose Martinez - Detroit Brawl in Dearborn April 2

Former Top Rank fighter, undefeated lightweight Erick De Leon will face Juan Jose Martinez. De Leon is a big punching southpaw, who is probably one of the fittest boxers in the world. De Leon has been out of the ring for some time, it is nice to see him back.

Also on the card is Brandon Moore, a heavyweight who did well in amateur despite a limited amount of fights facing Curtis Harper, the man who left the ring on the PBC card. Moore is learning on the job but has a high upside.

National champion 140 lber Joshua Pagan will also fight on this card.

Mykquan Williams will return off-tv for the first time since his ShoBox fight against Tyrone Luckey at 140 lbs.

Mikey Dahlman, an interesting regional fighter fights this week.

Christian Robles, a flyweight will fight in the L.A. area.

Kristin Vazquez, who was recently featured on ITRBoxing.com’s YouTube will make his pro debut on Friday. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/I43AKXx0yVY?start=281s&rel=0&autoplay=0&showinfo=0&enablejsapi=0

Wrestlemania

WrestleMania 38 poster.jpg

We have no major boxing cards, because Wrestlemania is now a two-day event, that captures the hearts of both young and old, and all major promoters have basically decided to avoid the date.

The event will be on PPV, but also available for users of the Peacock streaming app. The marquee bouts, are Charlotte Flair versus Ronda Rousey on night one, and Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns.

MMA in 500 Words Or Less

Honestly… no major card.

If you absolutely need some MMA in your life, UFC Fight Pass has a CES MMA show on Friday, and Cage Warriors fights on Friday and Saturday. None of these shows have fighters I know at all.
