R.I.P. Gary Russell Sr., Gone Far Too Soon

Gary Russell Sr., one of the few coaches to have taken two fighters to the Olympics both of whom his sons, Gary Russell Jr. in 2008 and Gary Antuanne Russell in 2016, has passed away at the age of 63-years-old.

It was rumored last night, but confirmed via BoxingScene.com today.

Russell Sr. had the silent killer Type-2 diabetes, as well as had suffered several minor strokes, that had caused health issues so much so that he was unable to corner Gary Russell Jr. when he lost to Mark Magsayo earlier this year. His had his left foot amputated in December, causing dramatic changes to his life and those around him.

Russell Sr., from Capitol Heights, Maryland, took his boxing career and built a dynasty.

We’d like to send our condolences to the family of Gary Russell Sr.
