Willie Nelson knocks out Tony Harrison in stunning upset

In a fight that lacked early excitement was at no loss for it when it was all said and done as underdog Willie “The Great” Nelson (24-2-1 14KOs) knocked out undefeated junior middleweight prospect Tony Harrison (21-1 18KOs) in Harrison’s first step up in competition. After the fight Nelson explained that he wants to face any and all champions at 154 lbs. and even said that he would like his name to be thrown in the conversation for a Floyd Mayweather fight as well.

For the majority of the fight, it was awkward. Nelson was naturally taller, but Harrison had the reach advantage creating bizarre looking exchanges as it appeared Nelson came out tense to start the bout. This seemed case and point when Nelson slipped from throwing a left hook. Harrison who used a good jab just seemed to be using activity to stop Nelson from generating much offense.

At the end of the ninth round, Nelson connected with a hook that dropped Harrison and was clear once Harrison took to his feet the bout would not be continued as he walked to the corner as opposed to walking to the referee. Nelson who had gotten into heated exchanges with Tony Harrison during the fight week activities emotionally embraced his new trainer, Brian Schwartz of Undisputed Boxing Gym in San Carlos, CA. This was Nelson’s first camp with Schwartz as Nelson has relocated to the Bay Area of Northern California after his fight against Vanes Martirosyan.

The end of fight came at 2:57 of ninth round.
