Dirrell, McDonnell win on CBS afternoon card

Anthony Dirrell  (28-1-1 22KOs)got back on his winning ways after decisioning Marco Antonio Rubio (59-8-1 51KOs) on Sunday afternoon at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas and shown nationally by CBS. In a rather sleepy affair, Dirrell did what was needed of him , but it was not his best moment as he went all ten rounds with the veteran Marco Antonio Rubio. In fact outside of a straight right hand that Dirrell landed in the first round, Rubio seemed unfazed by Dirrell’s power. The final scores were 100-90

WBA “regular” bantamweight world champion Jamie McDonnell (27-2-1, 12 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda (31-2, 19 KOs) to retain his title, but not without heated debate. Kameda started face , but seemingly slowed and lowered his volume as the fight progressed, not unlike the first bout. McDonnell dropped Kameda in the final round which left the lasting imprint upon fight fans. The final scores were 116-111, 115-112, 117-110 all in favor of McDonnell. On ITRBoxing.com’s unofficial scorecard we awarded the fight to McDonnell by one round after the knockdown in the final round.
