Former Three-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (31-2, 22 KOs) won yet another world title in a fourth weight division, via 12th round TKO over Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-2, 9 KOs). The main event on this Showtime Championship card occurred  on Saturday night at the U.S. Bank Arena in Broner’s  hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Although  Allakhverdiev forced Broner to the ropes consistently, he just had no answer for the vicious uppercuts, hooks off the ropes, and the lead right hand. Allakhverdiev endured twelve rounds of battering, suffering with what looked to be a broken nose and swollen, bloodied eyes. Unfortunately for Allakhverdiev,  Referee Harvey Dock waved off the fight after Allakhverdiev took several unanswered punches with less than a minute left in the fight. Time of the stoppage was 2:23 in the 12th round, awarding Broner the vacant WBA 140lb title.  Following the fight , Broner admitted that he hasn’t made the smartest decisions regarding his boxing career. Some of his bad decisions were fueled by being thrown loads of money at a young age.  Broner is determined now more than ever to focus on the craft of boxing, and get his career back on track. As for the future, or the next opponent, he had no qualms about fighting Ashley Theophane,  who’s in Floyd Mayweather’s stable.

The co-main event featured Undefeated IBF junior lightweight world champion Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza (21-0, 12 KOs) vs Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry (34-7-2, 19 KOs). This was a close fight to score, some people are even arguing that Cherry was robbed. Despite the judging of the fight, Pedraza was able to retain his belt winning by split decision on Saturday night at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Scores were 116-112 for Cherry, 117-111, 117-111 for Pedraza. Pedraza controlled most of the early action, while later in the second half Cherry takes over and presses the action. This is what Pedraza had to say in regards to the fight: ” I won the fight. It was a very tight fight, and very hard fight, but I definitely won the fight.” Pedraza felt like he started the fight strong, that Edner had his moments, but knew even when the scores were read that he did enough to pull out a W.  Edner Cherry had this to say: “It was a good fight. I just left it to the judges’ hands. If I knocked him out it wouldn’t be up to the judges. It’s them.  That’s the judges. That’s what happens when you leave it up to the judges.”  Although he thought he did enough to take the title away from the champion, he feels it was a good fight, and is happy with his performance.  What do you think? Should you count on the judges to make a fair calling of the fight, or should you go for the KO every time? Did Cherry do enough to take away the title? I guess we’ll never know.

Also part of the telecast broadcasted on Showtime Extreme, were a couple of Barn burners. Starting off the telecast was Jamel Herring (14-0, 8KOs) vs veteran Yakubu Amidu (19-8-2. 17Ko’s). This 10 round lightweight bout wasn’t much of a contest for undefeated Herring, who used his quick hand speed to dominate Amidu. Herring threw everything but the kitchen sink, embarking on a vicious head and body assault.  Herring wins by 10 round UD over Amidu winning every round on two of the judges scorecards, and 9 of 10 rounds on the last judges card.

Next up was undefeated lightweight Robert Easter Jr ( 16-0, 13ko’s) vs veteran Juan Solis 25-10, 9ko’s).  Easter put on a impressively violent show, stopping Solis in the 3rd round.  Easter displayed his accuracy, speed, and aggressiveness in this bout. Solis’ corner stepped up to the ring in the third round, when Solis ate a left hook to the liver.  Easter is an exciting, lanky lightweight to look out for, he will put you in the mind of Tommy “The Hitman” Hearns.

On the last bout of the ShoExtreme telecast, Cincinnati native Jamontay Clark (7-0, 4 KOs), had the crowd on their feet. Clark knocked down Joe Wilson now( 3-3) twice in the 1st round then, again in the 2nd . The ref waved off the bout.

Danny Calhoun (6-1, 3 ko’s ) defeats Jamal Woods via 6 round UD.

Luis Rosario (7-0-1, 7 ko’s) KO’s Aaron Hollis ( 3-1, 2 ko’s).
