Uzcantegui, Mendez upset on FS1 card
In a massive upset Jose “Bolivita” Uzcategui (24-1, 20 KOs) scored a spectacular two-round stoppage of Julius “The Chef” Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs) on Tuesday night in San Antonio’s Cowboys Dancehall. Uzcategui dropped Jackson three times in round one before Jackson hit the deck less than a minute into the second round forcing the fight to get waived off. Uzcantegui is now the number one contender for IBF super middleweight title held by James DeGale.
In a lightweight bout Argenis Mendez (23-3-1, 12 KOs) decisioned Miguel Vazquez (35-5, 13 KOs) in a typical Vasquez fight in which it appeared Vasquez won, but also no one felt confident really stating beyond that. Vazquez was docked a point in the seventh round for holding. The judges scored the bout 99-90, 97-92 and 95-94, all for Mendez.
In the swing bout welterweight Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (9-0, 6 KOs) scored a six round unanimous decision over Alfonso Olvera (4-2, 2 KOs). The scores were 58-55, 59-54, 59-54.
