Fresno’s Marcos “Madman” Hernandez to Fight on Undercard of Mayweather/McGregor Megafight
Fighting on the undercard of a major bout is an opportunity of a lifetime for most boxers.
That is exactly what awaits Fresno native Marcos Hernandez, who was notified by trainer Henry Ramirez that his next bout will come as part of the Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor megafight.
Hernandez’s bout against Kevin Newman II of Los Angeles was originally scheduled for Aug. 22. But because Newman is part of Mayweather Promotions, a switch was made.
Hernandez is only too happy to adjust his training schedule for the new date of Aug. 26 at T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
“It’s a bigger stage and better opportunity,” said Hernandez, who was training in Riverside last weekend. “Either way, I’m going to do the same job, but being on a big stage on one of the bigger sporting events ever and one of the biggest fights ever … this will be a good opportunity.”
Hernandez (9-1, 2 KOs) will face Newman (7-0-1) in a scheduled eight-round super middleweight bout. The preliminaries, including Hernandez’s fight, will air on KMPH-26.1 at 4 p.m.
