Danny Jacobs v Luis Arias: Middleweight Fight Preview
By Sevak Sarkisian:
Middleweight contender and former two-time world title challenger Danny
Jacobs (32-2 29 KO’s) will be making his return to the ring on Saturday, November 11th against
unbeaten prospect Luis Arias (18-0 9 KO’s). The fight will take place at Nassau Coliseum in New
York and will be televised live on HBO. This event is being promoted by Eddie Hearns
Matchroom Boxing Who Jacobs recently signed a deal with.
Danny Jacobs stands at about 6 feet in height and possesses a 73-inch reach. Stylistically I
would have to consider him to be a boxer-puncher. He has a good jab and usually likes to work
off of it. He has a powerful right hand and can move well on his feet. He holds wins over Ishe
Smith, Caleb Truax, Sergio Mora and Peter Quillen. However, He is probably most well known
for his close and competitive fight with current Linear champion Gennady Golovkin back in
March of this year.
Luis Arias, on the other hand, is a hungry 27-year-old prospect who has been waiting for an
opportunity like this on a big platform. Arias is an athletic fighter with good skills. He used to
be promoted by Floyd Mayweather’s TMT Promotions earlier on in his career however, he got
dropped from the promotion for what seemed like nothing more than some drama within the
TMT stable. He has since been picked up by Roc Nation Sports and has continued his winning
ways with trainer John David Jackson.
Arias has had a very successful amateur career and has
so far been able to continue his success in the pro ranks. However, we have to be aware of the
fact that he hasn’t yet faced any world class opposition yet and this fight will be the first time
he steps up to that level. Luis Arias stands at 5’11 in height and is by no means an undersized
middleweight. I expect a decent scrap on Saturday night between these two fighters and at the
end of the night, many questions will be answered. I’m certainly looking forward to it!
