Yordenis Ugas hires Memo Herredia for Shawn Porter fight

Yordenis Ugas is not taking his chance at becoming the WBC welterweight world champion lightly and recently employed strength and conditioning trainer Angel “Memo” Heredia to be a part of his March 9th, Las Vegas, Nevada bout against Shawn Porter.

Ugas, a hard-luck professional acquiring three losses between 2012 to 2014 including losses to Johnny Garcia, Amir Imam and Emanuel Robles.

Ugas has since changed his fortune defeating prospect after prospect as in the past three years, Ugas has beaten Jamal James, Levan Ghvamichava, Thomas Dulorme and Ray Robinson. Each fighter at the time having a solid amount of backing and hype when Ugas fought them.

Ugas is currently the number one contender for Errol Spence Jr.’s IBF welterweight title, but Spence has decided a much more profitable fight against Mikey Garcia on pay-per-view that left Ugas with no major fight, until the WBC world title fight with Shawn Porter came about.

Heredia is known for helping fighters like Juan Manuel Márquez, Paulie Malignaggi, Jean Pascal, Orlando Salido as well as recently Félix Verdejo.

The fight between Porter and Ugas will be broadcast by Fox Sports, according to the announcement made on Tuesday at a Los Angeles, Ca press conference by Premier Boxing Champions, and the two boxers are awaiting confirmation of the venue, but the bout is being scheduled for Las Vegas, Nevada, where both fighters train out of currently.
