Mikaela Mayer Out Of Tuesday Night Fight, Positive Result In COVID-19 Test
In a statement made in the past hour on 2016 U.S. Olympian Mikaela Mayer’s Instagram page, the standout fighter has let it be known she had a positive result in her COVID-19 test, prior to her Tuesday, June 9th, ESPN co-main event fight against Helen Joseph.
“I am heartbroken to report that I will no longer be fighting on Tuesday’s Top Rank card due to a positive result in my COVID-19 test yesterday,” said Mayer in her Instagram post.
Mayer, who now has lost two fight camps as she was training to fight in March, when bouts were canceled prior, now will have forgone two whole camps without a fight, which is draining and depressing.
“It came as a complete surprise. I am currently asymptomatic and am quarantining at an off-site location per recommended guidelines,” said Mayer elaborating she felt no ill-effects or symptoms of the silent virus.
Mayer’s promoter has not issued a formal statement yet (but will more than likely within the next hour or so), but posted the following on Twitter in the last hour.
As of right now, no fight has been announced as the co-main event, and the positive of the positive result is Top Rank Inc’s testing procedure for COVID-19 has worked, thus far.
