Rest In Peace Tim Lane, Boxing Coach No Longer With Us

Rest in peace to former boxing coach Tim Lane, who guided Chris Algieri to a world title against Ruslan Provodnikov. That would lead to a bout against Manny Pacquiao in China.

Lane infamously said “he was going to let Algieri out of the cage,” seconds after the corner interview, Algieri was dropped by the hall-of-famer Pacquiao.

That being said, Lane along with Algieri were a part of one of the most dynamic comeback world title wins in the modern era, and it often gets overlooked. Sometimes you have to be great on certain nights, and they were great on that evening.

I will forever remember Lane, as one of my first reporter interview gigs was talking to Algieri and Lane at the San Francisco Giants stadium, along with Manny Pacquiao, who I had no access to, and learned that quite fast. After interviewing Lane, I remember he looked at his shoes and pointed. I couldn’t figure it out, I didn’t know if it was a gang sign or some ritual he did, or if I should ignore what he was doing and pretend I didn’t see.

“Look,” said the former world champion level boxing coach, Tim Lane.

I looked down and saw we had the same shoes. This photo was taken minutes after.

Rest in peace, you left an impression on me, and for those out there, be sure to tell people how much they mean to you, or the impression they left you with – it might mean more than you think.
