BRIGHT FUTURES: 10 Prospects to Watch

Intro by Nigel Stewart

To me, defining what makes a prospect is simple; anybody that is at the beginning of their career that looks like they have the “goods”. Anyone that has watched boxing more than casually should knows that not all prospects are built the same. As we always say, there are levels to this game. You can be a blue chip teenager, a no name guy in his 20’s looking for a way to feed the family or a life long Olympian who wants to be a world champion and is on the fast track. The exciting part for me is not all prospects pan out, some live up to expectations, some exceed them and some leave the sport making us all wonder what happen. Either way we can’t wait to watch it all unfold.

As boxing hits a lull in the last few weeks, we thought it made sense to look forward to the future; the next stars in boxing. But the question of “what makes a prospect?” is not an easy one to answer. In fact, many of the fighters we considered for this list, guys like Troy Isley, Hamzah Sheeraz, Nicklaus Flaz, Xander Zayas, and Dalton Smith, ultimately seemed like they had graduated to contender with high quality wins. Thats not to say that the fighters on this list are not taking interesting competition, to the contrary, the quality of their opposition is part of why they are here. It just means there is a certain level of competition we haven’t seen them in with, but we see them as guys with incredibly bright futures. While every outlets’ definition of a prospect is different, this was what we came up with.
