Scott survives Thompson, Lipinets upsets Rhodes

Heavyweight Malik “King” Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) earned a tough decision over Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (40-6, 27 KOs) in a ten rounds main event on Friday night at “The Venue at UCF,” located behind the CFE Arena in Orlando, Florida. Scott outworked Thompson for the majority of the fight as he was far too slick for Thompson who showed his age. Thompson finally landed a right hand in the ninth round that floored Scott, but Scott hung in to survive and win by decision. Scott won by unanimous decision with the scores of 98-91, 96-93, 95-94 all for Scott.

In a upset in the super lightweight division, Sergey Lipinets (8-0, 6 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over Lydell Rhodes (23-1-1, 11 KOs). Lipinets withstood Rhodes ability to create distance and out slick him. Rhodes began to tire as Lipinets kept constant pressure on him, eventually hurting him bad in the ninth round, the same round, Rhodes was deducted a point for holding. The scores were 96-93, 98-91, 98-91 all for Lipinets.

In a clash of undefeated welterweight prospects, Samuel “El Macho” Figueroa (10-0, 4 KOs) hammered out an eight round unanimous decision over Javontae Starks (13-1, 7 KOs) in a fun opening bout. Figueroa won by the scores of 78-74, 77-75, 77-75.

Lightweight Gervonta “Tank” Davis (13-0, 12 KOs) destroyed former world champion Cristobal “Lacandón” Cruz (40-19-4, 24 KOs) in three rounds. Davis dropped Cruz in the first round, but the third round saw the bout come to the end via a vicious uppercut.
