Fox Sports 1 Heads To SF, headlined by ‘Tino’ Avila

A sources close to the situation reported on terms of anonymity as the contracts are not yet signed that Thursday, April 30th, San Francisco, CA will host a Fox Sports 1 card headlined by Fairfield, CA’s Manuel “Tino” Avila (16-0 7KOs). Avila spoke with the reporter late last year and spoke of his belief that he will be with in title contention in the not so distance future i.e. soon. Surprisingly, Avila is not even listed in the top 15 at the given time even after beating undefeated prospects early in his career such as Ricky Lopez. The fight one might hope would be a match-up that could make Avila climb up the rankings.

The co-feature will be Paul Mendez (16-2-2 7KOs) who is coming off a first round stoppage victory in Brooks, CA in January. Mendez, a middleweight, whom has spent time with both the Andre Ward camp and Gennady Golovkin in Big Bear, CA is another fighter who is not listed in the top 15 of any governing body even after a convincing body of work. Mendez three years ago drew with former number #1 contender for the WBA Dmitry Chudinov and has held onto the a regional title for three years. Mendez will be looking to make a statement to move up into contention the middleweight division, which is not regard as one of the deeper divisions.

The opening bout of the television portion at the present time is Andy Vences (10-0 6KOs) who has stopped his last four opponents inside the distance. Vences is one of the brightest prospects in the Bay Area as he is representing San Jose, CA as well as well as a rare mix of power and technical ability. Ryan Bourland and Arturo Quintero announced via social media that they will also be featured on the card.

The rumored show would be at the Longshoremen’s Hall in San Francisco, CA with the television portion going live abruptly at 7PM with doors opening at 6pm
