Lara decisions Rodriguez, Beterbiev continues KO streak

WBA super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara (21-2-2, 12 KOs) defended his belt with a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Delvin Rodriguez (28-8-4, 16 KOs) on Friday night at the UCI Pavilion in Chicago. The fight though was still a bit of a let down since Miguel Cotto, a smaller fighter, had stopped Rodriguez in his last fight in three rounds. On top of all of that, Lara just didn’t seem to do much to compel the average fan to want to see him again as he seemed to go through the motions beating an outclassed foe even dropping Rodriguez in the sixth round.

After the fight Lara called Floyd Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin, essentially all of the big fights that are available in weight classes near him.

In the Premier Boxing Champions, Spike televised co-feature, Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) continued his knockout steak in the light heavyweight division, knocking out game Alexander Johnson (16-3, 7 KOs) in the seventh round. Beterbiev had to withstand some pressure as early on Johnson was very game, but seemed outgunned by the power of Beterbiev. Beterbiev dropped Johnson twice in the fifth round with the bout nearly being stopped Johnson would fight back only get dropped two more times in the seventh causing a halt to the fight.
