Nonito Donaire Sr. trained boxer, welterweight Rudy Macedo (1-0 1KO) of Novato, CA hasn’t been in the ring since October of last year when he put together an impressive knockout of Mario Aguirre in Sacramento, CA.

Macedo, a highly decorated amateur world champion who was a PAL champion, 5 times silver gloves champion, golden gloves champ, is now looking to take his 70 plus amateur fights into the professional game. Macedo, who is barely over the age of 20 years-old now is gearing up to make the adjustments needed to become not just a good pro boxer, but great.

Macedo is the rare boxer who seemingly is unfazed fight night as he fights his best the day of the fight which he has shown throughout his amateur career. Macedo who has sparred a who’s who of professional boxers from Amir Khan, Levan “The Wolf” Ghvamichava, Willie Nelson, Fabian Maidana and many more. The common thought by all is “…this guy only has one pro fight, he fights beyond his years.” It is a look of shock normally when people find out Macedo’s age and the amount of experience he has had in the pro game when compared to the fighters he regularly spars.

Macedo’s assistant trainer, Abe Morones explained that it comes down to the team, Donaire Sr. Boxing Gym in Oakland, CA, being able to push an athlete who wants to be pushed and keep him engaged. Another factor Morones explains is the ability for Morones to get in the ring with him and push a young man’s pace on him.

Yet Macedo might be one of the best boxers in the gym who may never have happened. Macedo who started training Tae Kwon Do at the age of three moved to the United States at the age of five. Macedo was unable to find a gym that suited his needs and started training in boxing instead, that was fifteen years ago now.
