Mayweather likely to be stripped of WBO welterweight title

Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KO’s) missed Friday’s deadline to comply with the WBO’s condition to retain his WBO welterweight title, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael. The WBO was requesting that Mayweather give up belts by other governing bodies and a specific amount of money which is being reported at around $200,000 dollars to pay for sanctioning fees. As of result, it appears that all indications point to the WBO stripping Mayweather of the title and awarding the belt to ‘interim’ WBO champion, Timothy Bradley.

Mayweather had missed prior deadlines, but had been able to extend the deadline. If Bradley is awarded the WBO title, his first mandatory defense will be against Sadam Ali.
