Keith Thurman makes Collazo stop on the stool
Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0 22KOS) earned a hard fought victory over Luis Collazo (36-7 19KOs) in a homecoming of sorts as the fight was contested in Tampa, Florida which is near Thurman’s hometown of Clearwater, Florida. The end of the bout came in a confusing manner as Collazo retired on the stool in between the seventh and eighth round as he stated to a doctor that he couldn’t see.
In what appeared to be an academic outing for Thurman proved to be much tougher as after picking up three rounds against Collazo, Collazo began to press forward on Thurman who began to do something unthinkable, fade. In the fifth round, Thurman was clinching to survive the body shots of Collazo who seemed seconds away from scoring a knockdown.
The sixth round Thurman made a late rally, but with a big left hook late, but was still being walked down by Collazao, as a clash of heads opened up a cut on Collazo’s noggin. As the fight wore on, Collazo fell into a bad habit of stalking Thurman around the ring rather than cutting off the ring as it appeared Thurman was able to rally back heading into the championship rounds. The end of the bout came with one second into the eighth round as Collazo refused to answer the bell due to vision impairments.
After the bout, Thurman called out Floyd Mayweather stating that he will go back to camp right now, tomorrow, if the fight is made.
