Heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr (25-0, 17 KOs) scored a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over late sub Joell Godfrey (17-15-1, 6 KOs) on Saturday night at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, California. The bout was tough as Godfrey spent the majority of the time on the ropes probably due to the short notice nature of the bout and questioning his own conditioning. This made it frustrating for fans and Ruiz as the fight looked more like sparring then a regional title fight. Ruiz won 80-72 on all three scorecards and told ITRBoxing.com that he would return on October 24th’s Terrance Crawford vs. Dierry Jean co-main event slot on HBO.
The co-main event saw Daniel “El Chapulin” Valdivia (9-0 7KOs) winning the Junior NABF Middleweight Title with a knockout of Jeremy Ramos (9-2 3KOs). Valdivia dropped Ramos earlier in the fight, but had to regain pose in order to finally stop him with fully extended punches from the outside that stopped Ramos in the sixth round.
In the swing bout slot, Also, local super lightweight Alex Rojas (1-0-1, 1 KO) needed just 71 seconds to KO Gabriel Solorio (0-1-1, 0 KOs) whom he drew with earlier this year in Fresno, CA. Recently signed junior lightweight Andy Vences (13-0, 9 KOs) scored a first round TKO over Andres Bustamante (5-7, 1 KO) when Bustamante suffered a broken right arm after punching Vences skull. Bustamante missed weight by 2 1/2 pounds after asking to fight at a catchweight of 131 lbs.
In undercard action, Julian “The Left Handed Bandit” Lopez (3-0) won a tough split decision over formily Iron Boy Promotions fighter Edgar Brito (3-2-1 2KOs). This was Lopez’s second win over an undefeated opponent after beating Michael Gaxiola of Modesto, CA earlier this year. The judges had the bout a shutout on two cards for Lopez and one card 39-37 for Brito and somehow that kind of made sense since neither guy won the bout.
2012 Brazilian Olympian Esquiva Falcao (11-0 7KOs) made short work of Zolton Papp (7-2-1 3KOs) of Budapest, Hungary. Falcao trapped Papp in the corner and landed shot to the body and head to gain the stoppage.31 year-old Joe Louie Lopez (6-0 3KOs) picked up a tough win over Rafael Valencia (2-1 2KOs) who gave the fighter rugged bout that Lopez won by a clean sweep. In the opening bout, Eric Altamirano (5-0 4KOs) of Fresno, CA by way of Pittsburg, CA stopped Imarjoe Miller (1-4) in the first round dropping him once before stopping him with a temple shot in the corner.
