Peterson edges decision, Williams gets DQ upset win
Lamont Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KOs) won a hotly contested majority decision over previously unbeaten Felix Diaz Jr. (17-1, 8 KOs) in a welterweight clash on Saturday night in the EagleBank Arena at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. In a back and forth fight that saw both men have their moments it appeared that a late surge by Peterson with an investment into the body appeared to have won him the fight. The judges scored the bout 114-114 and 117-111, 116-112 for Peterson.
In a tough battle of unbeaten welterweight Terrel “Tyger” Williams (15-0, 13 KOs) scored a ninth round win by disqualification over Prichard “Digget” Colon (16-1, 13 KOs). Colon was deducted two points for a low blow in round five followed by Williams being deducted a point for hitting Colon in the back of the head in round seven. Williams dropped Colon twice late in round nine and the bout was halted during the break after Colon’s corner accidentally took off his gloves thinking the fight was over. Williams won by DQ when Colon wasn’t ready to come out for the tenth round. After the bout, Colon was taken to the hospital and was reported to have a brain bleed and is now entering surgery.
