Peter Nelson named head of HBO Sports
HBO today named Peter Nelson the head of the network’s sports department, promoting him to Executive Vice President, HBO Sports ; essentially meaning he will be in control of boxing on HBO for 2016. Nelson, who has been a staff member of HBO Sports since 2011, has been Vice President, Programming, HBO Sports since 2013.
HBO has televised boxing for 43 consecutive years and has long been thought of as the industry standard. Nelson will be in charge of building up the network after the influx of boxing on non-premium cable networks.
Nelson in a prepared statement stated “The quality of HBO Sports programming is mirrored in the profound talents creating it, both those who work with HBO and those who work within it, people for whom I have deep admiration and with whom I’m excited to collaborate.”
