Ryan Bourland wins regional title, McKernan gets KO win
Ryan “The Rhino” Bourland (11-1 5KOs) of Vallejo, CA accomplished one of his goals as he picked up the Global Boxing Organization (GBO) light heavyweight title as he stopped Gilberto Rubio (6-4 4KOs) in the sixth round of the main event from Sacramento, CA at the DoubleTree Hotel. Bourland weathered an early onslaught from Rubio and was able to hurt him the fourth round with a right uppercut. Bourland continued to land hard punches until the fight was stopped one second into the sixth round when Rubio could no longer continue.
This fight was a rematch from a split decision this summer, July 9th, at Cache Creek Casino and Resort in Brooks, Ca, in a fight Bourland won.
The co-main event saw cruiserweight Blake “The Beast” McKernan (5-0 4KOs) pick up a third KO over Jamel Reynolds (1-7 1KO). McKernan won via a right uppercut that laid-out Reynolds. After the fight McKernan took the mic to address the crowd as he is a veteran and was fighting on veteran’s day.
Sacramento’s Mario Ayala (5-3-1 2KOs) picked up a sixth round stoppage of Pablo Cupul (8-20 5KOs) in the super bantamweight division. The fight was a competitive bout with Ayala landing the harder shots and eventually stopping Cupul in the final round.
In a minor upset, cruiserweight Marco Delgado (1-0 1KO) knocked out Sacramento’s own Matt Yee (0-1) in an entertaining fight.
The open bout of the evening saw Ivan Vergara (1-0) of Fairfield, Ca defeat Tyler Marshall (0-1) in the featherweight division.
The card was promoted by Uppercut Promotions.
