Brandon Trejo, Ruben Villa win over the weekend
Northern California fighters Ruben Villa and Brandon Trejo picked up wins on separate nights as they continue their winning ways as they move forward with their career.
Featherweight southpaw Ruben Villa (9-0 4KOs) who fought last Saturday night in Verona, New York picked up a six-round decision over German Meraz. Villa who trains with Max Garcia in Salinas, CA has been very active as he has fought nine times in a little over a year. The judges scored the bout 60-54.
Napa, CA’s super-featherweight Brandon Trejo (3-0 1KO) got his first knockout of his career stopping Carlos Apodaca in the third round in Ontario, CA on Friday night. Trejo was cut in the second round but accelerated his pace to stop Apodaca with a flurry of punches forcing the referee to step-in in the third round.
Trejo fought the bout with a heavy heart as he had limited gym time due to the Santa Rosa fire. His coach, Oscar Ortiz, nearly didn’t make the fight as his coach is a sheriff in Napa County and was working overtime, but able to make it to the fight when the fire seemingly died down the week of the fight.
