Locals lose in Lemoore, CA
On January 11th from Tachi Palace Casino and Resort in Lemoore, CA saw local junior middleweight favorite Daniel Valdivia (14-2 10KOs) lose his second straight fight to the same foe, Vladimir Hernandez (11-3 7KOs), this time only minutes away from Valdivia’s hometown of Tulare, Ca. The fight saw Valdivia start very fast, if not too fast as put a nearly unsustainable pace. Valdivia seemingly won the first two rounds but elected to stand in front of Hernandez rather than use his length and found himself in a fight he couldn’t win against the game southpaw. The fight seemingly was up in the air when Valdivia didn’t engage with Hernandez in the final round thinking that he was ahead in the bout, this decision more than likely cost him the bout.
Hernandez won the bout by unanimous decision, for Valdivia this is the second loss to the same foe, this time in Valdivia’s hometown.
Relatively unknown Calvin Metcalf upset Fresno, Ca favorite Joe Louie Lopez in what might be one of Lopez’s last fights of his career. The two stood in front of each other for six rounds landing concussive uppercuts and then fighting in the clinch. The fight was awkward. Metcalf picked up a majority decision win.
Super featherweight Victor Morales Jr. made his Central California debut in a great way as he picked up a fifth-round win over Edgar Cantu, Isidro Ochoa picked up a four-round decision over fellow unbeaten fighter Gabriel Rodriguez, Angel Cordon Jr. got a 3rd TKO over a very game, Johnny Estrada, Timothy Bradley Jr. advised fighter Edgar Martinez survived getting dropped in the first round to come back and beat Javier Rodriguez and Robert Garcia Boxing Academy’s Bryan Lua continued to look the same getting a four-round decision over Mario Aguirre.
The card was promoted by About Millions in conjunction with Top Rank Inc.
