Artem Dalakian defeats Brian Viloria wins WBA flyweight title

Artem Dalakian (16-0 11KOs) of the Ukraine may not be a household name as of yet, but on February 24th at The Forum in Inglewood, CA, he picked up the biggest win of his career by defeating Brian Viloria (38-6 23KOs) for vacant WBA world flyweight title.

Viloria chased Dalakian, who was the rangier fighter of the two and used his length and youthful legs to stay away from Viloria. Dalakian controlled the fight from the outside meaning the exchanges were done in intervals with not a lot of moments gunslinging as the fight was very tactical.

In the seventh round, Viloria landed the best punch of the fight, a counter right hand that nearly buckled Dalakian, who was able to survive the round but appeared dazed.  The ninth round saw Dalakian get a point deduction for pushing Viloria’s head down.

The judges saw the bout 118-109 all for Dalakian.
