Alexandru Marin edges Bruno Escalante at The Forum
Super flyweight Alexandru Marin is one step closer to a big fight as he picked a razor-tight split decision over Bruno Escalante of San Carlos, CA.
The bout saw Marin, the much taller fighter, walk forward for the majority of the fight and look to be active. Conversely, Escalante was moving backwards looking to throw a straight left hand which seemingly landed early and often. A headbutt occurred in the fourth round that did damage more so to Marin, who wore the scars of war.
One of the telling moments was that Escalante would sit on the ropes at times and though Marin would only land one or two shots he was throwing a lot as opposed to Escalante who has countering with one or two punches.
Escalante seemingly dropped Marin to end the bout, but it was ruled a slip.
The judges scored the bout 96-94 for Marin, 97-93 Escalante and 98-92 Marin. The 98-92 scorecard was not very good, the bout was in the six rounds to four range.
Undercard results, middleweight Jonathan Esquivel picked up a first-round knockout over Joan Jose Valenzuela, super featherweight Mario Ramos picked up a third-round KO of Alex Solorio, super flyweight Joselito Velasquez picked up a six-round decision over Jose Alfredo Flores Chanez and Brenda Flores upset Louisa Hawton to win the women’s WBC atomweight belt
