Josh Taylor, Nonito Donaire advance in WBSS

In a World Boxing Super Series super lightweight quarterfinal, Josh Taylor (14-0, 12 KOs) cemented his status as super lightweight to watch with a seventh-round KO of Ryan “Bluechip” Martin (22-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Taylor dominated the whole fight working mainly from the inside and dropped Martin in the seventh with a shot that looked to be to the back of Martin’s head. The bout was quickly waved off.

Taylor will advance in WBSS super lightweight tournament and meet Ivan Baranchyk in the semi-finals.

Former four-division champ Nonito Donaire (39-5, 25 KOs) added another world title to his collection as he won the WBA bantamweight super champion from Ryan Burnett (19-1, 9 KOs) by an odd fourth technical knockout.  In a very competitive fight, Burnett threw a punch and bent over as he appeared to suffer a back injury and could no longer continue.

Donaire won via that, now he will face Zolani Tete in the semi-finals.

Notable undercard results include

Super middleweight Zach Parker (17-0, 11 KOs) picking a highly enjoyable split decision win over Darryll Williams (17-1, 7 KOs) to claim the vacant British title. The bout was a back and forth regional delight.

Former WBC super lightweight world champion Viktor Postol (30-2, 12 KOs) picked up a ten-round decision Siar Ozgul (14-2, 3 KOs) and Former world champion Paul Butler (27-2, 14 KOs) outscored Yoan Boyeaux (41-6, 26 KOs) picked up a ten-round decision as well.
