Oscar Valdez returns January 12th in Tucson, Arizona on ESPN
WBO Featherweight Oscar Valdez (24-0 19KOs) finally has his date in which he will return as he will fight in Tucson, Arizona and is currently in the process of trying to finalize a fight contract with Andoni Gago (23-3-3 6KOs) in a 12-round world title fight that would take place on ESPN. The news was first reported by Lance Pugmire of the LATimes.
Valdez, two-time Mexican Olympian is the current WBO featherweight champion, who has been in multiple fight of the year contenders. Valdez is known for his fan-friendly style as well as trading with opposition even if he can find paths to victory that are easier. Valdez in his last fight broke his jaw and since has left his longtime trainer, Manny Robles, and now is training with Eddy Reynoso, the trainer of Canelo Alvarez.
Gago’s resume is not noteworthy to speak of, but he has been in with solid competition such as Lee Selby. Gago is not known for power and that might be why he is getting the fight with Valdez considering Valdez is coming off a broken jaw that he suffered against Scott Quigg last March.
