Juan Francisco Estrada set to face Mendez on December 8th

With Roman Gonzalez no longer fighting on December 8th’s final HBO telecast due to a knee injury, former world champion Juan Francisco Estrada has entered the mix.

Estrada (37-3, 25 KO) will face Victor Mendez (28-3-2, 20 KO) as Gonzalez’s original opponent of Pedro Guevara, will now no longer have a dancing partner.

The show will also feature a pair of women’s world title bouts, as unified women’s welterweight world champion Cecilia Braekhus takes on lesser-known Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes in the main event, and Claressa Shields faces Femke Hermans for her world title as well.

Estrada has been featured on HBO quite a bit in the era of Superfly cards as he lost a majority decision to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai earlier this year as well as beat Carlos Cuadras last year on the network as well as headlined Superfly 3 to beat Felipe Orucuta by decision.

Estrada wants a rematch with Rungvisai, but that won’t happen on HBO as the network that has been in the boxing business for 45 years will be folding up shop after this telecast.
