David Lemieux, Vergil Ortiz off, Canelo vs. Rocky start time and full card
Sorry to announce to all my fans I will not be fighting due to something I was not in control of. We trained 2 months for this fight, we made weight easily. Really don’t know what else to say but I’ll be back SHORTLY ???
— Vergil Ortiz Jr. (@VergilOrtiz) December 14, 2018
Blue-chip super lightweight prospect/contender Vergil Ortiz Jr. is no longer fighting on Canelo vs. Rocky tomorrow on DAZN, at the historic Madison Square Garden. No reason as of yet has been given for Ortiz, but it is very disappointing, to say the least for fight fans as Ortiz appeared ready to go and one of the most exciting young fighters in the sport.
Former world champion David Lemieux is also off the fight card as a headline ripped from the MMA headlines carried over to boxing as Lemieux passed out trying to cut weight and found himself in the hospital for a brief stint. Lemieux’s opponent, Tuerano Johnson will now be left without a dancing partner.
The card now looks as follows
Main card at 6 PM PST.
Undercard starts at 3:00 PM PST
Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding for Fielding’s WBA super middleweight title, 12 rounds
Sadam Ali vs. Mauricio Herrera in a welterweight bout, 10 rounds
Tevin Farmer vs Francisco Fonseca, for Farmer’s IBF super featherweight title, 12 rounds
